Shaping Montreal's mobility

Taxelco's initiatives left a lasting mark on Montreal's transportation landscape, driving progress in sustainability, technology, and industry practices.

Pioneering electric urban mobility

Taxelco, through Téo Taxi launched in 2015, was a Canadian trailblazer in large-scale electric taxi deployment.

This commitment aimed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality, positioning Montreal as a leader in green urban transport. The vision extended to exploring electric solutions for cargo and delivery. Though the initial model evolved, the dedication to electrification persisted and remains a cornerstone of the current Téo Taxi operations. Taxelco's early adoption significantly advanced the conversation around electric mobility in Canada.

Advancing taxi technology and service

Modernizing the taxi experience through technology was paramount. The Téo mobile application provided seamless booking, payment, and communication, mirroring ride-sharing convenience within the regulated taxi system. Taxelco planned to deploy this technology across its acquired fleets. This focus continues today with the Téo Taxi app managing the unified network and advanced systems like virtual queuing being implemented for airport services. Beyond tech, an emphasis on enhanced service quality, including professional drivers and in-car amenities, aimed to redefine customer expectations.

Modernizing the industry structure

Taxelco actively reshaped Montreal's taxi industry structure. Acquiring major players like Taxi Hochelaga and Taxi Diamond brought consolidation and standardization to a fragmented market. The initial Téo model experimented with salaried drivers and benefits, attempting to innovate on traditional employment structures, although this was later adjusted. Taxelco also navigated complex regulations, such as utilizing permit rentals to launch Téo. These efforts reflect a broader attempt to modernize the industry's operational and business practices.
